How to Pass the Math Praxis
Passing the math praxis core test can be the most nerve-wracking event at the start of your teaching career!
The main thing you want to remember is that math should not be that stressful! If you are worried about passing the test, this is going to hinder your performance on the test itself. So just relax and you’ll do great!
Praxis Core Math Help
One of the most frequently asked questions that I get whenever I’m helping students with their math content for the praxis is “How am I going to remember everything?”
Most likely you’re not, but being prepared is the key to helping you get ready for the exam! My favorite FREE website is Khan Academy.
As much as I love Khan Academy, I found that my students preferred my explanations of the math itself. I’m not sure if they were just trying to win some brownie points, but they said they could understand my explanations better, so this is where my newfound role of being your math praxis bestie came to be.
Tips to Pass Praxis Core Math
Here are my 3 quick tips to help you pass the praxis core math:
Tip #1: Do the numeric entry problems first.
What exactly are numeric entry problems? These problems require you to type in the answer and are not multiple choice. You can skip around until you find these problems and do them first. I always find that whenever you are not on a multiple-choice problem, you can get confused so getting these problems out of the way in the very beginning helps you with your time management while taking the test.
Tip #2: Learn how to use the online calculator.
You are not allowed to bring your own calculator to the math praxis core test! You are only allowed to use the on-screen calculator! Most questions can be done quickly without a calculator but in the case that you need one, I would practice doing a few problems first using the online directions.

Tip #3: Answer every single question!
If there is one thing to remember about taking the math praxis core test, it is to answer every single problem! I can not stress this enough! You are scored on correct answers. Incorrect answers are not counted against you. You want to answer every single question to receive the highest possible score! Even if you have to guess, it is better than leaving it blank!
