Convert Percent to a Fraction
We are going to take 25% and turn it into a fraction. We know we can just drop the percent symbol and write it out of 100, making it 25/100.
How do I know that a percent is out of 100, because if I look at the symbol you can see the 2 zero’s and the slash represents the 1.
Now that we know it is 25/100, we can simplify the fraction by dividing both the numerator and denominator by the GCF (Greatest Common Factor) of 25 and get ¼.
How to Convert Fraction to Decimal
Then if we look at our original fraction 25/100, we can move our decimal point 2 places to the left because we are taking the numerator 25 and making it smaller to be 0.25.
It is 0.25 because we are dividing 25 by 100.
How to Find the Percent from a Fraction
If we are changing from a fraction to a percent, we will want the denominator to be 100. Once we make the denominator 100, we automatically know that the numerator will be our percent.
For example ¼ = 25/100, therefore ¼ = 25%
Percent to a Decimal
If we are going straight from a percent to a decimal like 25% = 0.25, we know we can do this because of the percent to a fraction conversion.
25% = 25/100 =0.25
Decimal as a Percent
Also if we are going from a decimal to a percent 0.25=25%, we know we can do this because if we read the fraction correctly as 25 hundredths, then we know it is the same as 25/100 = 25%
