Hey teacher friend! Are you looking for simple tips on how to use the on-screen four-function calculator for the Praxis Core Math Exam? Well, you are in luck! I have 3 simple tips to share with you today on how you can use the on-screen four-function calculator when you are taking the Praxis Math Core Exam.
Here we go!
On-screen Four-function Calculator Tips
✅Tip #1: The calculator follows the order of operations so remember GEMDAS!
Grouping symbols
Exponents
Multiply or divide in order from left to right
Add or subtract in order from left to right
When in doubt use parentheses when inputting your answer!
✅Tip #2: Just because the calculator is there, doesn’t mean you have to use it for every single question. Save time and do simple calculations mentally.
For example, Multiply and divide by powers of 10!
As a math teacher, I always cringe when I see a student put any number divided by or multiplied by 10 in their calculator. For example, the other day one of my students put 4410/10 in their calculator! I said you can save time and just divide out the pair of zeros! They looked at me like I was crazy, but they honestly have never been taught this type of mental math before!
Or if they were taught to do this, they don’t remember it!
✅Tip #3: Use the transfer display button to put the answer you just found directly into the test itself!
After you have done your calculation, you can hit the transfer display button on the on-screen four-function calculator to put the answer directly into the test itself!
Win-Win! It’s also a time-saving tip to make sure you finish the test on time!
